Milan Design Week 2018

In this article, we want to tell you about the recently concluded 2018 Salone del Mobile: where we went, we tried to see as much as possible, ready to tell you all about what we saw and perhaps inspire you to experience it again at the next event!

The Salone del Mobile 2018, the event that enthralls all experts in the world of design, is an important moment every year for our city of Milan, but also on a global scale. In this article, we offer you a brief journey through our eyes, the eyes of those who practice our profession and live among scenography, installations, and events. Our personal perspective, a brief travel diary, in images, dedicated to this important event, always full of beauty, ideas, and the future... Visiting the Salone del Mobile means staying up-to-date, but experiencing it is also like reading a "great classic" of literature. You can read it multiple times, and each time it will give you a different message that will lead to new food for thought, to creativity—creativity that exhibitors can finally express, and which is welcomed and absorbed by the visitor who receives it.

Here is our "reading" of this edition:

Let's start with some numbers: the 57th edition of this wonderful collective event for our city attracted a staggering 434,509 attendees over six days, with 188 countries represented and 1,841 exhibitors split between the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, EuroCucina, and the International Bathroom Exhibition. These numbers were also joined by the 650 designers under 35 at SaloneSatellite.

This extraordinary edition recognized the companies' commitment to promoting the best of Italian design and their commitment to the wood-furniture industry, a sector that is crucial for the environment, the country's growth, and for innovative, organic, and effective industrial techniques.

The theme of "nature" was the underlying theme of this 2018 edition, which offered us an original, ecological, and explosive vision of what nature can offer, from the choice of materials to the actual display.

There were numerous references to nature linked to the oriental theme, and we also noted the reference to curved lines and roundness in objects and furniture, which characterised this 2018 Salone del Mobile.

Floral references were also present: exotic plants, paper flowers, and fresh flowers. All were presented in vertical greenery walls, backdrops with paper or PVC flowers and leaves.

The colors we saw the most: dark green, petrol green, pink, blush pink, orange, blue.

These elements were especially evident along the Fuori Salone routes: 5 Vie Art, Ventura Centrale, Brera Design District, Zona Tortona, etc., where the creativity and flair of the designers once again impressed us with innovative and surprising ideas!

Here are some images we collected during the Fuori Salone…

When will the next Salone del Mobile in 2019 be? The date for next year's edition has already been set: Milan, April 9-14, 2019.
