Why ask yourself What are the most beautiful flowers for a wedding?? Because the only thing that will remain besides our memory of the wedding day will be the photos and videos, and then the scenography, the atmosphere and colors will have to be impeccable to create a magical setting for these memories.
Every bride wonders what they might be the most beautiful flowers, those who can best express the personality of the spouses and also the style and theme chosen for the wedding day.
I wanted to ask many of my colleagues, flower designers and wedding planners spread throughout Italy, what the brides' requests were, what the most requested and loved flowers from brides and thanks to the many responses I was able to draw up a small but indicative ranking of the flowers most loved by brides. For example, some of the responses received, as you can see, are detailed and precise:
Marianna Ricci She says: “When a bride comes into the shop, she always knows about roses, so I recommend something else, perhaps lisianthus: I see they like both single and branched ones! I've done so many weddings with carnations: they have so many wonderful shades, and if you offer them in geometric shapes like spheres or flat bases on which you can then place some other flowers, they're happy to accept them… I always describe it as a whipped cream effect! They also really like aromatic herbs accompanied by chrysanthemum and chamomile!”
Anna Iannone: "Brides' favorite flower is definitely the tulip, followed by the peony, the rose, and the hydrangea. Some people also love calla lilies, and lately, there's been a lot of demand for wildflowers. The common belief is that they're a way to save money, but that's not the case at all! However, they're very beautiful for their spontaneity. Another flower I've changed my mind about is the sunflower. I've never been a big fan of it, but I have to say that when used in the right combinations, it's truly a standout, and many young brides want one..."
Marisa Gargiulo Events: “I always suggest the carnation, but they always turn up their noses!”
Anna Ubaldeschi: "Assuming that brides are aware of the existence of other flowers and therefore propose them... the favorites are always tulips, peonies, roses, lilies, and gypsophila. Then, when you propose (inserting them into the arrangement) dahlias, wax hyacinths, bracts, various berries... they light up immensely."
Valeria La RoccaDear Silvia, carnations for weddings are my dream... but I can't find a bride who will accept them... always hydrangeas, peonies, and roses!
And so here are the results…The 10 most beautiful flowers for a wedding according to brides:
1.PeoniesThey triumph in different variations: white, pink or streaked peonies, their romantic air easily declinable in a country chic or refined and romantic style is a real wildcard, they are also among the favorites of brides for a dream bouquet.
2. RoseTimeless, a classic, and as such a guarantee, a bouquet of white roses represents pure love. White, hand-crafted in bulk, in dimly lit churches, they convey brightness and elegance. Thanks to imports, roses are available in a wide variety of colors year-round.
3. Hydrangea: It conquers with its appearance that recalls soft clouds, from white to blue but also capable of creating carpets in all the shades of pink available
4. StreetThey are among the flowers that most represent the bride in tradition and for this reason they are much loved.
5. Tulip: the flower is a symbol of love, deep love, a true declaration but few brides know this and choose it simply because they like it... and who can blame them?
6. CarnationIt's hard, hard to get brides to accept it, but when they discover it and its decorative potential, they'd cover everything with carnations, even the buffet tables! It's so loved by florists that they've offered it so much in recent years, and today we find it in sixth place in our ranking!
7. Orchids: they seem to be in great demand, after all, orchids are the flower of femininity... what better choice for a woman on her wedding day?
8. LisianthusAn exceptional flower for its versatility, it fits in refined, classic, romantic, country, rustic, and even modern settings! Available in a wide variety of colors, it's truly popular for all occasions, and I love it too!
9. Thrush: Much loved, it is truly irresistible in a bridal bouquet. It's a shame the season is so short (May) and that's why florists are so terrified when they see desperate requests in December. Importing it is a good idea... I said, try!
10. GypsophilaThe flower with a thousand names throughout our peninsula: bridal veil, cloud mist...and even chalk flower. In recent years, it has been the star of dreamy church reception arrangements in any setting. Today, it's perhaps experiencing a slight decline because it's so popular, and I agree. We encourage newlyweds to experiment with new floral experiences!
I conclude by pointing out that at number 11 we would have found the Lily (Lilium), a must in the 70s/80s, now almost forgotten, which is timidly coming back and in fact here it is, just out of our top ten of most beautiful flowers for a wedding according to the brides!
